Where The Crawdads Sing was recommended to me by so many people during lockdown that I was so eager to pick it up while on holiday – it did not disappoint.
Owens has created a beautiful story of loss, love and nature. Kya – the Marsh Girl – is left alone by all those that she loves in the marsh that borders a small town in North Carolina. Her resilience is remarkable and admirable as she learns the mysteries of the marsh and thrives despite her loneliness. The marsh becomes her life, her love and her work as she explores, learns and marvels at it’s wonder.
However, it becomes clear that the wildness of the marsh is far from the biggest danger Kya must face especially when a local man is found dead in the marsh.
A coming of age story, murder mystery and dedication to nature, Owens’ brilliant novel is totally absorbing, emotional and enlightening.
One of my favourites this summer so far ❤️📚 @authordeliaowens @penguinrandomhouse
