When They Find Her is a debut psychological thriller that I have read in almost a single sitting.
After losing custody of her very young daughter a few years back, Naomi finally gets her little girl to stay the single night. To her shock, the following day she finds her dead at the bottom of the stairs. Naomi decides to hide her lifeless body on her farm out of sheer panic and to declare her missing to the police.
I have to say – this book kept me on the edge of my seat! While disturbing, I was thrilled to find that storyline is quite original and does not drag too long. The pacing is fantastic, and none of the characters felt out of place.
The author explores some of the most complex human emotions, and you feel them on every page. You are introduced to indescribable grief, postnatal depression and betrayal of loved ones. It is all handled with uttermost delicacy so that while Naomi did some horrible things, you can still feel compassion towards her character.
A promising debut, and I will definitely pick up the next book by Lia Middleton!
