The Sanatorium is a book that reads pretty much like an old Scooby-Doo episode.
📖
An imposing, formerly an old abandoned sanatorium isolated hotel high up in the Swiss Alps is the last place Erin wants to be. But she’s taken time off from her job as a Detective, so when she receives an invitation to celebrate her estranged brother Isaac’s engagement, she has no choice but to accept. Arriving amid a storm, Elin immediately feels on edge. When they wake the following day, they discover Isaac’s fiancee Laure has vanished without a trace and very soon disfigured body of staff members appears in the swimming pool.
📖
After reading the first chapter, I was very intrigued and regrettably, this where it all stopped for me. I could only describe Sanatorium as a book that tries too hard. For me, it was flawed with dull, unlikeable characters, a cliche story and hardly plausible motives. The story kept killing suspects almost as quickly as introducing them as very soon I have started to lose the plot. I was looking for a creepy, chilling atmosphere, but unfortunately, it was not delivered.
📖
On the other hand, it was an easy page-turner that you can read in a few sittings. I am a big fan of short paragraphs, and I believe this is what kept my attention until the very end.
📖
This book unfortunately was not for me, but please let me know if you have read it and what did you think of it?

  1. I have this on my shelf but haven’t read it yet! I’ve definitely seen mixed reviews on it
