Thank you @trevornoah for an insightful, funny and page-turning half term read.
Born A Crime is a love letter to Noah’s mother but also to South Africa, warts and all.
Mostly chronological, this fabulous memoir is filled with stories of Noah’s childhood during and post apartheid. He brilliantly weaves the history and politics of South Africa in the 80s and 90s with accounts of his experiences growing up mixed race in a country defined and ruled by colour, race and difference.
We read of Noah’s antics with his friends, cousins and mother which are both hilarious and horrifying in equal measure. His devotion to his mother is evident throughout and his tales of navigating the perils of townships, dating, the police and more seriously his abusive stepfather.
Thrilling, compelling and fascinating, this is a fantastic book for all readers ❤️📚
