“If you leave a door half-open, soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken.
If you play outside alone, soon you won’t be going home.
If your window’s left unlatched, you’ll hear him tapping at the glass.
If you’re lonely, sad, and blue, the Whisper Man will come for you.”
Feel the tension now? This is not just a crime story about a missing child. This is a creepy experience which crawls under the skin. The past links with the present to form a dark and chilling multi-layered plot with that will make you sure to check your door is locked at night!
It was easily the best thriller we read in 2020 if not ever. Following the sudden death of his wife, writer Tom Kennedy and his young son Jake moves to a cottage in the British village of Featherbank for a fresh start. Tom is entirely unaware of its history and connections to a now locked up serial killer, Frank Carter – known as The Whisper Man. Everyone thought the nightmare was over. Not really.
We cannot recommend this highly enough. Aside from the crime and psychological thriller element, the father and son focus has a very emotional side to the story, even heartbreaking at times. We discussed how they both are coping with grief and loss and inability to communicate with each other.
