QOTD: what is the weirdest book you have ever read? 📖🙈🤷‍♀️
The Vegetarian is a weird, weird book. It is an odd story, but something is haunting and lovely about the way it is told.
We observe Yeong-hye’s descend into madness as described by her husband, brother-in-law, and finally, her sister. Her spouse and brother-in-law converge primarily on how it affects them, whereas her sister is much more emphatic and tries to comprehend why this is happening. The three voices are very different, and it almost feels like you are reading three different books.
A disturbing book. A compassionate look into the minds of the mentally ill and permanently exhausted. It’s frightening to realize how utterly alone people can be, especially being pushed away and misunderstood by the closest people around them. I am sure I have missed some vital points because the book is built entirely on symbolism and hidden messages.
This is a cruel story about sadism, destruction, and a creepy tale of how a woman punished herself for something she believed in. A woman who thought that living meant dying. And another woman who wanted to protect her sister but was helpless till the end. This is definitely not for everyone and not an easy Sunday afternoon read.
Weird story, but weirdly I really enjoyed it.

  1. Hahah the weirdest book I ever read was Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. It’s part of the southern reach triology and I seriously don’t know what I read. It was very bizarre

  2. Hmmm…this is a great question. I’ve actually really been wanting to read some weird books lately haha. I just finished listening to The Hollow Places and it was SO WEIRD.
