Project Hail Mary is an ode to every single sci-fi nerd out there!
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission-and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish.
Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.
All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.
His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, he realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Alone on this tiny ship that’s been cobbled together by every government and space agency on the planet and hurled into the depths of space, it’s up to him to conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.
And thanks to an unexpected ally, he might have a chance.
After loving the Martian and being somewhat let down by Artemis, we were unsure what to expect from Andy Weir’s newest novel. But we are glad to say that Mr Weir did it again – it’s a quick, funny, sarcastic and exciting read that manages to bring a surprising amount of tension from a guy doing math. There are tons of exciting and unexpected twists that kept us both on the edge of our seats!
This was one of those books where you are dying to know what happens, but at the same time didn’t want the book to end. It is science-heavy, but it does not mean it’s dull! We both read it in an almost single sitting and would gladly ask for more!
The threat to earth felt very original, and the science background made it even more real. We had somewhat mixed feelings towards Ryland’s “ally”, but we will leave this judgment to an individual opinion.
Strong 5 out of 5 stars from both of us! 🧔👩🏻🦰
