My favourite book of lockdown and probably 2020 – Girl, Woman, Other is the Book…

1 min read

My favourite book of lockdown and probably 2020 – Girl, Woman, Other is the Booker Prize winner of 2019 written by the fabulous @bernardineevaristowriter.
The book is split into 12 chapters each dedicated to a different woman, in which Evaristo explores their past and present. All of these women have a unique yet relatable story and in one way or another they are all connected to each other.
Amma, Yazz, Shirley, LaTisha, Morgan, Hattie and all the others are beautifully described and you can’t help but empathise, sympathise and want to meet each one.
This book is about race, sexuality, gender, success, failure, expectations and regret but mainly it’s about 12 ordinary but also exceptional women who’s views, lives and passions are revealed and explored in Evaristo’s compelling prose that leaves you unable to stop reading but desperate not to finish. The only downside is the lack of time with each chapter, just when you’re settled with one it’s on to the next leaving you bereft at losing the woman you’ve just got to know so deeply.
A must read for everyone ❤️📚 @penguinukbooks @womensprize

  1. Just finished this on your recommendation! Such an interesting book and I loved discovering the new characters before seeing how they are all connected
