Matthew Syed, the table tennis champion turned journalist, wrote Bounce at the beginning of this decade. In his debut book, he unpicks the well-told and commonly believed assumption that only talented people reach the top.
Each chapter explains the school of thought surrounding said myth, challenges it and provides convincing arguments to support his unwavering point that talent has nothing to do with success.
Syed draws on theories from Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers (see previous post) and Ben Goldacre’s Bad Science, amongst others, to help debunk the so-called talent myth.
Bounce is accessible, fascinating and makes you wish you’d just spent a few more hours practicing…who knows I could have been the world’s greatest athlete 🤔😂. Definitely worth a read even if you know you will just never be good at football (had to get it in somehow!) ❤️📚
