Lanny by Max Porter is a short but totally thrilling read. Never have I felt my heart beat so fast as I desperately read through the most traumatic parts, however, due to Porter’s exquisite and unusual style racing through his prose would be remiss since every word counts.
Lanny is a boy who’s parents move their family to a quiet countryside village where his ethereal and peculiar ways confuse and enthral the villagers (real and mythical), particularly mad Pete.
Written from the point of view of everyone bar Lanny, Porter creates a brilliantly loveable character who’s safety you pray for when the unthinkable happens.
Unique in plot, character and print on the page, Lanny is a beautiful book and a fabulous second novel from Porter – I can’t wait to read his debut ‘Grief is a thing with feathers’. Long listed for the Booker prize last year, I highly recommend. ❤️📚
