If Beale Street Could Talk is a moving and compelling story of true love and gross institutional racism.
The main characters are Tish and Fonny, two young lovers, who’s relationship blossoms in flashbacks from when they were children the present (1970s) where Fonny has been imprisoned under false rape allegations. He is arrested purely for being black and his family and Tish’s family do all they can to get him out, especially since Tish is pregnant.
It is desperately sad and wonderfully sweet and happy all at the same time.
Less that 200 pages, it is the perfect summer read ❤️📚 Thanks to @isobel.thompson for giving it to me for my bday and for reading it alongside me @penguinclassics
