I have stayed up way past my bedtime this week because I couldn’t put Nina de Pass’s debut novel The Year After You down.
Cara suffers a traumatic and life-changing event that leaves her alone, devastated and on the other side of the world at her new boarding school in Switzerland. The Year After You is told from Cara’s point of view letting us into the mind of a distraught and guilt-ridden teenage girl as De Pass so articulately describes the rollercoaster of emotions her protagonist experiences. She captures the zeitgeist with her insightful story telling including all the anxiety, drama and excitement of teenage life.
De Pass has excelled herself with her first novel and I’m seriously hoping there will be many more. Her ability to make us feel as her characters do is impressive, enthralling and utterly addictive – crying on the tube is never ideal but certainly an indicator of a great book ❤️ 📚 @marinadepass
