I have spent the last week repeating stories from this fantastic book by @clanchykate because it is so good and so relevant.
Kate Clanchy is an English teacher who has been in the profession for 30 years and this book is filled with heartfelt stories of the kids she has had the pleasure of teaching. It is also filled with insightful and intelligent thoughts and concerning facts and experiences of the reality of the state education system, which makes for fascinating reading even if you aren’t an educator.
Her pupils are fierce and dedicated (thanks, I’m certain, to Kate’s incredible skills as a teacher) to their learning and to writing poetry (Clanchy’s raison d’être). But they are also vulnerable, misunderstood and, in some cases, very troubled.
This book is for everyone and especially for teachers – it makes you remember why you became one despite the strangeness of this year and what’s to come 😬.
Huge thank you to fellow teacher and friend Su, who gave me this book 🙏❤️📚
