Dead Head is a third instalment of the Sweetpea series by C.J Skuse, and it is as dark and twisted as two books before it!
Let’s start by saying that this series is my guilty pleasure. It tells the story of Rhiannon – a girl next door serial killer. In the last book, she is finally on the run. Her previous murders eventually caught up to her, but Rhiannon being Rhiannon, will find a way, even if she has to hide in the cruise ship on the way, to have her whole identity changed.
You need to have a twisted sense of humour to love those books, and I adore them. It won’t be for everyone as it features very strong language and very graphic murder scenes, but if you are up for it – they are indeed something. Despite being a brutal killer, Rhiannon is very likeable, witty and vulnerable at the same time. I believe that everyone could find a little of her in ourselves – not necessarily making a kill list every morning, but every once in a while, we all seen or read something that got our blood boiling.
I have listened to the audiobook version of the story as I did with the first two books. I could not imagine a better narrator than Georgia Maguire as she brings Rhiannon’s twisted mind to life perfectly.
If you have a strong stomach and a dark sense of humour – you really can’t go wrong with this one—the female version of Dexter.
QOTD: What is your guilty pleasure book? 📖🙈💕
