Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie review -⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
For one of my university modules we have been revisiting children’s classics and Peter Pan has definitely been my favourite by far.
Moving away from the heavily didactic texts for children that preceded it, Peter Pan is full of imagination and play and encourages readers to escape to their own Neverland.
I felt so nostalgic reading this especially as watching Disney’s Peter Pan is something I remember from growing up and found it fascinating to re-encounter the story knowing that it was originally written for the theatre, something I never knew before!
I’m not sure if reading this again as an adult changed my perceptions but this time around I found the ending of the book heartbreaking as Peter finally returns to Wendy only to find that she has grown up and can’t return to Neverland with him- is this just me or did anyone else feel this way?😭
